The Elden Ring DLC, titled Shadow of the Erdtree, was officially announced on February 28th, without any further news. This silence is also making the fans impatient, although now a possible release date has emerged to mark on the calendar regarding when we will see the DLC in action again.

According to reports, FromSoftware could present the long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree DLC during The Game Awards 2023, a moment during which the release date of the expansion will also be announced.

This was, at least, reported according to leaker and YouTuber Ziostorm, who stated that his sources have not been verified, so for the moment, it is best to archive everything as a rumor. That said, it looks like Shadow of the Erdtree is set to launch on February 5, 2024, so about two years after the release of Elden Ring.

According to the latest financial reports, we can tell you that Shadow of the Erdtree should not be released before April 2024. Indeed, Kadokawa Corporation has published its latest financial report, where the Japanese company states that the decline in sales and profits of the first quarter will be compensated, starting from the second quarter of the current fiscal year, by Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon, new games from Spike Chunsoft and from Kadokawa’s mobile titles.

The TGA 2023 will in any case be held on December 7th, 2023, so in fact there are only a few months left before we can find out whether these predictions will prove to be true or not.

Since the Nintendo 64 Paper Mario has been fully decompiled, it opens a great scope to create PC Ports and mods. These ports won’t be infringing with any Nintendo copyrights as the coder successfully reverse-engineered the code. Unlike cracking the entire game and recreating its code, Ethan Roseman, the coder recreated the entire source code from scratch. This has opened a great deal of possibilities for players who love Nintendo games but own a PC.

Paper Mario PC Port & Mods Finally Possible

After the full decomp, the coder, Ethan Roseman confirmed on X, “I’m extremely happy to announce that after 3+ years of working on a decompilation project for Paper Mario, we have reached 100% completion for the US version of the game. Every compiled function has been matched!”. Along with this tweet, he has shared the entire Paper Mario decomp project on GitHub allowing players to download it for free.

He also added, “There’s a lot more to do on this project, including documentation, other version support, more asset support, etc. But this is a huge achievement that wouldn’t be possible without the insane work from so many talented people. Congrats to everyone!” With the US version of the Paper Mario fully complete, he also shared the decomp retrospective and an announcement video.

Such decomp projects are completely legal as they don’t copy or use any copyrighted assets. These include textures, music, or any visual assets in the game. Rather than copying its source code, the team recreated it from scratch. But players would need to get a legally sourced Nintendo 64 ROM to create any version of the ports from the decompile. It will require players to extract these assets and recreate the code for a PC or Switch port.

Over the years, plenty of N64 decompilation projects have been carried down so far. These include Bomberman 64, Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart 64, Pokemon Snap, and many more projects. Speaking of some recent decomps, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released online after its full decompile was complete.

Likewise, the Paper Mario decomp is a great way for the community to preserve masterpieces. So, we will have to wait and see until someone ports this classic game into PC or Switch.

What is Happening to Unity Game Engine? (FAQs)

Unity is bringing about major policy changes which basically charge studios every time their game gets installed on a new device. This is called the Unity Runtime fee. Here’s the official statement from Unity’s blog:

Effective January 1, 2024, we will introduce a new Unity Runtime Fee that’s based on game installs. We will also add cloud-based asset storage, Unity DevOps tools, and AI at runtime at no extra cost to Unity subscription plans this November.

Unity Runtime Fee Explained

Unity Engine is made of two software components namely, the Unity Editor and the Unity Runtime. Unity Runtime is the code that runs on your devices, and now the Unity Runtime fee takes into consideration every time a ‘qualifying game’ is downloaded by a user.

So, in a nutshell, studios have to pay Unity a certain amount for every game that is installed by users, once the thresholds are met. When the product is installed and initialized on an end user’s device, Unity will count it as an install.

And yes, it will even count as a new install if a user (who already owns a game) downloads it on a new device.

Naturally, this policy change has caused a furor in the game dev community because this will greatly impact developer revenue. Indie studios, especially, will be most hit due to this change.

Why is Unity Game Install Fee being implemented?

If you’re wondering why they decided to have a Unity Runtime fee, here’s the official statement via their blog:

“We chose this because each time a game is downloaded, the Unity Runtime is also installed. Also, we believe that an initial install-based fee allows creators to keep the ongoing financial gains from player engagement, unlike a revenue share.”

Will Reinstalls be Charged Unity Game Install Fee?

• No, Unity is not going to charge the Runtime fee for reinstalls.

More details about the fee amount and thresholds are mentioned further below. And yes, this not only includes paid games but also games that are on the free-to-play/in-app purchases and freemium model.

Will Game Demos and Open/Beta Access Games also be Affected?

Here’s the answer Unity has provided:

“If a user can access a full game (e.g. via an in-game upgrade or purchase), then installs count toward the fee. If a user can’t access the full game (e.g. only one level is offered) then that demo would be considered a separate package and not count toward the fee. Early access games are not considered demos. In addition, we don’t intend to capture or count installs for QA testing.”

Who does the Unity Runtime Fee apply to?

What makes the game eligible for a Unity Runtime fee? There are two conditions to fulfill:

• The game has passed a mininum revenue threshold in the past 12 months.
• The game has passed a mininum lifetime install count.
• Unity Personal and Unity Plus: Developers that have made $200,000 USD+ in the last 12 months and also have mininum 200,000 lifetime game installs.
• Unity Pro and Unity Enterprise: Those that have made $1,000,000 USD+ in the last 12 months and also have mininum 1,000,000 lifetime game installs.

So if you fulfill the criteria, the Unity Runtime fee will be applicable to you as a developer.

Unity Blog: “We set high revenue and game install thresholds to avoid impacting those who have yet to find scale, meaning they don’t need to pay the fee until they have reached significant success.”

The official page also has steps for developers to check if the Unity Runtime fee applies to their game so they can estimate applicable fees.

The fee is applicable to new installs starting from January 1, 2024 and it will be a monthly fee.

How much Unity Runtime fee will developers have to pay?

Based on the table provided by Unity and the different tiers of Unity, these are the estimated fees if thresholds are met:

• New Installs per month: 1–100,000
• Unity Personal and Unity Plus: $0.20 per new install
• Unity Pro: $0.15 per new install
• Unity Enterprise: $0.125 per new install

• New Installs per month: 100,001–500,000
• Unity Personal and Unity Plus: $0.20 per new install
• Unity Pro: $0.075 per new install
• Unity Enterprise: $0.06 per new install

• New Installs per month: 500,001–1,000,000
• Unity Personal and Unity Plus: $0.20 per new install

United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

Emerging market fees apply to app installs in all other countries.

Emerging market rate:

• New Installs per month: 1+
• Unity Personal and Unity Plus: $0.02 per new install
• Unity Pro: $0.01 per new install
• Unity Enterprise: $0.005 per new install

Are there any Discounts?

If developers choose to also use other Unity services like Unity Gaming Services or Unity LevelPlay then they can have a Unity Runtime fee reduction.

Unity Plus is being closed down for NEW subscribers effective immediately from September 12, 2023. Existing subscribers will get an email in October with an offer to upgrade to Unity Pro for one year at the price of the current Unity Plus.

Do developers still need to pay for my Unity subscription plan?

Yes. Aside from the Unity Runtime Fee, the Unity subscription plan still has to be paid for. The invoice method will be the same, and it will be charged monthly regardless of your Unity Plan payment cycle.

Many players had their fun with the DBD Flashlight Locker bug until it got axed by the Dead by Daylight developers. With the entire community abusing the Flashlight Locker exploit in-game against the killers, the players were almost invincible. Due to this horrible glitch, players were using this exploit to win public matches. As a result, the matches had balance issues and complaints from the community to fix this bug. So, it was inevitable for Behaviour Interactive to remove this bug from Dead by Daylight. But alongside this bug, the devs also axed many other in-game items and perks.

DBD Flashlight Locker Bug Kill Switched by Devs

The Survivors using the DBD Flashlight Locker flashlight bug could enter the locker without triggering the animation. Once the players got into the locker, there was no way the Killers could get inside or attack the Survivors. To stall time, the survivors could move around the locker box becoming invincible. This resulted in a great number of Killer players disconnecting from the servers as the Survivors abused this exploit.

While the players think the DBD devs don’t care, they listened to these pleas finally. So, the devs kill-switched the Flashlights alongside three perks in Dead by Daylight with their recent update.

Here are the following things that are currently kill-switched:

• Flashlights
• Dramaturgy Perk (Nicolas Cage)
• Appraisal Perk (Zarina Kassir)
• Residual Manifest Perk (Haddie Kaur)

But don’t worry, the devs are not planning to permanently axe the above in-game items and perks. The devs are working to resolve this exploit according to their recent announcement on Twitter and Reddit. So, we suggest being patient until the devs resolve this issue.

Go to Shattered Sanctum which is located towards the north side of Goblin Camp. Enter through Heavy Oak Doors. Inside if you walk straight you will find Goblin Leader True Soul Gut. Take a right turn just before that and go up through the stairs. You will see Roah Moon roaming around the fire torch.

There is a consequence when you kill all three goblin leaders. You will not be able to trade with her, so it is best to first pay and visit and then proceed with the quest.

If you choose to kill all the goblin leaders and then pay her a visit she will attack you. Her guards also will turn into enemies, do not forget to kill them all and loot the entire area. Roah Moonglow is carrying 1489 Gold, it is worth loot with all other supplies just in case you can grab it all.

However, for some reason, they did not remove the mod in Diablo 3. Soon after TurboHUD 4 was announced for the game (Reddit), Blizzard released a notice regarding the unauthorized mod software, and players who might have hoped to use it might be in for some disappointment.

“We are committed to keeping the world of Sanctuary a safe and fair place for all players, and our Game Security team constantly monitors for cheats and unauthorized modifications.” TurboHUD 4 or THUD4 violates the Blizzard EULA that every Diablo IV player signs at the beginning of the game.

Diablo 4 Players will get Permanent Ban for Using TurboHUD 4

In Blizzard’s Notice, they clearly mentioned “With that in mind, we want to make it clear that TurboHUD4, like any game-modifying software, is prohibited for use with Diablo IV. Players who install this kind of software will put their accounts at risk for disciplinary action, which can include permanent suspension.” While a small punishment might also be handed out at the start, Diablo 4 players using the TurboHUD 4 mod are ultimately heading towards a permanent ban on their accounts.

This trailer focuses on two characters: on the one hand Liu Kang, who was the protagonist of the very first Mortal Kombat, before being assassinated. On the other hand, it is Geras, guardian of time and protector of the Hourglass, the artifact that regulates the flow of time.

The trailer, entitled “Keepers of Time”, also shows us Geras in his new version designed for the graphic style of this semi-reboot of the series. The character is well recognizable, even if his model and his clothing have some variations.

In the trailer, cutscenes and actual gameplay scenes follow one another, created with the Mortal Kombat 1 engine. The dialogue with Liu Kang about the reconstruction of a timeline to eliminate some characters also introduces some plot elements.

The video shows Lui Kang’s “old friend” in action with his fists and hints at an ominous outcome for the Fire God’s new world order. As Lui Kang himself explains, “Geras is the guardian of the hourglass, a celestial object which lies beyond the realms. The hourglass regulates time and destiny.”

“I have watched you with the hourglass,” Geras tells Lui Kang. “You are relishing your role as Earthrealm’s protector. When you restarted history, you altered the destinies of certain malefactors to neutralize them. Your vision of peace may already be compromised.”

Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. At San Diego Comic-Con, the team revealed the Kombat Pack roster, which will include Peacemaker and Homelander, among others. Check out the trailer below.
