As you progress deep into BG3, you will be left with one of the most baffling questions. Whether or not the Emperor Mindflayer is Evil in Baldur’s Gate 3 or not. Since you are bound to make the choice of either helping him or not, you might wonder what kind of role the Emperor plays in BG3 and what might his motives be. Is the Emperor Evil in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Although the Emperor is borderline sinister and quite often seems to be a bidder for chaos, he is not really Evil in Baldur’s Gate 3. Having said that, we also want to add that he is not quite good either. So to properly put it, the Emperor in BG3 is more of an Anti-Hero rather than a villain or a hero. Although the Emperor Mindflayer has done good for the people of Baldur’s Gate, he is more often than not using the Illithid Powers and convincing the characters to do so as well (in a bid to turn you into a Mindflayer).
You should probably know by now but the Emperor is none other than the Dream Visitor or Guardian in BG3. Going further, you will get confirmation from Withers that he is not like the other Mindflayers and although his soul is taken over, he still remembers his past life. However, he believes a lot more in Illithid supremacy and is probably one of the reasons why his motives are often questionable. At the end of the day, we believe the Emperor is both Good and Evil in Baldur’s Gate 3.
